ok, i know that almost alllll airsofter hate paintball masks. the down side is that theres a few regulated fields that require them to play. such as sequoia. some places such as fort ord require you to play with sealed goggles or a full face mask. all these field require some form of eye protection. so whats the big deal? everyone complains about the fog, unable to use iron sites, colorfull painball mask stick out too much etc. the truth is... your forgetting where they originated... paintball.
i know there has been tension between paintball and airsoft but asking a paintballer about quality face protection does help. i hate to say it, but dont go cheap on protection. people are buying cheap mesh airsoft masks, or cheap paintball masks but you should reasearch your gear. after some reasearch, mesh masks can actually cause cheap bbs to break and have pieces go through the mesh into your eyes. so the alternative is sealed goggles or a PB mask.
now sealed goggles from wiley x or oakley combat/impact resistent eye wear are cool and allow you to sight easier, it doesnt protect your face, so a common thing in airsoft to do is wear a balaclava or shmeg' with combat glasses. downside is fogging on the field. when on the field you should never have to pull off your eye protection and having gear that is not anti fog or fog resistence is just asking for trouble and can be hazardous in airsoft. a quick solve for those who dont want to buy more gear can easily get some rain x from your local kragens, or find a spray of jt's cleaner and anti fog spray. the downside to this is that you have to constently treat your goggles all the time. even so, i dont take it as a guareentee that it will always work (last game i still fogged after treating)
so last but not least full face. i know every airsofter hates a full face, but i feel its because of a few things that the average airsofter overlooks. one feature that is almost a necessity is the lower mouthguard section. make sure its a flexible base, like on the jt pro flex. this allows some play for laying your cheek agains a buttstock etc. also most of all, spend the extra money for antifog. an anti fog mask such as my vforce grill has a treatless anti fog lens, ive never had to stop and wipe down because of fogging. the ony time i ever had to wipe was because of sweat dripping into the lenses, which only happened once (somehow bypassed the foam sweat guard ).
as for colors, look hard enough and you can find decent combos that work well, such as OD and black, sometimes woodland and digi are available. they even sell camo'd lens covers which act like window tint.
Another thing that people over look is your gun. some people have retractable stock such as on the mp7, mp5 , and g3a3 where that extra space on the rear stock allows space for your mask. you can also buy risers for your red dots which will help as well. and lastly.... the best advice i can give.... DONT RELY ON YOUR RED DOTS, IRON SITES, ETC. like they said in ghost recon 2, you look through your sites all day, and youll get flanked on your sides. learn to watch your first shot and trail to your opponent. learn to aim without sites, and youll kill much faster and become more aware of your surroundings. i feel sites are good for you initial shot or sniping, but dont rely on them, you never know if yours will get shot and break (right Boom-Boom )
and lastly, pay attention to the rules. please wear sealed goggles/full face masks. those rules are there for your protection, so dont argue with management about wearing your expensive non seal wileys etc. youll thank them when you get shot in the goggles and they shatter, keeping your eyes in tack. |

tearing the crotch of your BDU's at the field, so everyone can see your speedos, thong or happy face boxers, and then sitting in the car and stiching them up, but who carries a sewing kit with them to the field bravo1?
Honestly, a sewing kit that came out of your military gear!!!
just kidding!! good idea though! |
