About Airsoft

So what is airsoft? To sum things up, airsoft is considered as an extreme combat sport with realistic equipment and firearms. Players re-enact real combat situation and even real world combat events using military tactics to out do each other as well as complete the mission and objectives. The average player dresses up in realistic combat gear (camouflage, vests, holsters, etc) and uses replica airsoft rifles and pistols.

Pro grade weapons in airsoft are nearly or exactly 1:1 scale to the real steel counterpart. Airsoft ammo are small plastic bb’s and are loaded in clips in which you load into the rifle like any real firearm. Most rifles are powered by RC car type batteries, and most pistols are powered by gas (a form of propane, or 134a).

In airsoft, kills are played through an honor system. When hit, you then yell out “hit” or “out” and call yourself out. Some have asked, how can you tell if you hit your target? Most of the time, you will see a major reaction to a hit, such as a jolt of an opponent. What about cheating? Luckily, most airsoft players highly value the honor system and are very honest when playing. Much like any sport, whether its baseball or football, you play by the rules and the players must respect those rules. A common answer to cheaters in this sport… just keep shooting them until they give =)

Safety is a serious issue; airsoft weapons look very real and are sometimes very difficult to distinguish the difference between them and real fire arms. There are even cases of irresponsible airsoft players being shot and killed by real firearms from others and the police as well. The typical rules for airsoft are as follows:

  • Treat airsoft weapons like real firearms.
  • Always treat an airsoft weapon as if it was loaded
  • Never point them at an unprotected individual or animal
  • Never use an airsoft weapon in view to the public.
  • Never transport an airsoft without a bag, box, or case.
  • Always wear the right protective gear when playing airsoft. (paintball / airsoft mask)
  • Always remove the clip, clear your shots, and set your gun to safety when storing.
  • Never transport a weapon outside of a case/bag/box and with a clip loaded in it.
